Winton Set to Fire for Round 5 of the Australian Formula Ford Series
Rain, hail or shine, this weekend’s round of the Australian Formula Ford Series is set to be hotly contested by an eager group of Formula Ford competitors.
With Winton being the home test track to many, calling out a favorite to win is hard but we do know that series leader, Leanne Tander, will not be taking a backward step as she races towards her first ever Formula Ford national title.
The man that will be doing his best to knock Leanne off the top spot will be Will Brown. Being one of Australia’s busiest racers, Will, who also competes in F4 and the new Toyota 86 series, is a top runner in all categories he competes in but has yet to overtake the experienced Tander.
Young gun, Jayden Ojeda who currently sits in third place, will be one to watch as he recovers from a tragic Round 3 where nothing went his way. His battles with Leanne all year have been a great spectacle. In the last round at Wakefield his form was back which he hopes to carry onto Winton this weekend.
“The racing in this year’s series has been nothing but exceptional. As we are a predominantly development category we love the fact that Leanne has made the commitment to the national series as her experience, both on and off the track, is setting a benchmark for other competitors to chase which is great for the category”, said series coordinator Phil Marrinon.
This round of the National Series is part of the AASA based Victorian Motor Racing Championships.
“When it comes to race meeting options that we can participate in to form our national series, there are surprisingly not as many options as most would think. Our approach was to embrace any opportunity we could for our national competitors and this event was offered and on behalf of the competitors we accepted. The competitors love racing at Winton, which is well suited to Formula Ford, and we always feel welcomed by the organisers.”
Winton will be the place to be this weekend with qualifying and a three race program to feature over the weekend providing a great opportunity for spectators to see the best of Formula Ford racing.
