Eddie HSC Exams are a drag

When a choice needs to be made between driving in the final round of the 2023 Australian Formula Ford Series or doing your HSC Modern History exam, your sport surely must suffer. But what if you could do both, somehow complete both practice sessions on the Friday at Shell V Power Motorsport Park in South Australia and complete a 3-hour NSW Department of Education HSC exam on the same day.

Formula Ford driver Eddie Beswick had the planets align for him on Friday with practice times at “The Bend” allowing him to fit in his Modern History exam in the middle “So we had 2 official practice sessions here at Tailem Bend today, one at 11:05 and the other at 4:10 in the afternoon” said Beswick. “My exam was scheduled for 1.25 local time to coincide with the 1.55 start in Sydney. I really must thank the Formula Ford Association for the work that they did to make sure I was allowed and able to sit the exam in another state, and Shell V Power Motorsport Park for helping us print out the exam, sent 15 minutes before, and setting us up in an office on the dragstrip. I’m sure I’m the first person ever to complete a HSC exam at a dragstrip.”

Australian Formula Ford Series category manager Icky Harrington says he is happy to see the dedication shown by Beswick “It must have been a really hard day for Eddie, who has shown that commitment is a big thing for him. It would have been easy for him to stay home, complete the exam fly over tonight and compete for the rest of the weekend. But to his credit he did both well, finishing all his exam in the time allotted and finishing 6th on the timesheets in Practice 2. That will set him up for a great weekend.”

Eddy finished the day under half a second behind Series leader Matt Hillyer on combined times and will look forward to bettering his time in Qualifying on Saturday Morning.
