Thomas Sargent secures the 2021 Australian Formula Ford Championship

With our results from Winton now finalised and official, we are happy to announce that Thomas Sargent has a sufficient pointscore buffer to become the 2021 Australian Formula Ford Champion, with a full round still to complete.

Sargent has showed great pace in the category since his debut, including a nail-biting title fight with Angelo Mouzouris in 2019. After two years of ever changing schedules due to Covid-19 and sporadic event cancellations, the 20-year-old from Young, NSW will become our 51st National Formula Ford Champion.

“As a team, this championship has been a work in progress for a while and we’ve had to overcome the challenges of COVID interruptions the last few years, so to finally get the job done is extremely satisfying,” Sargent said.

As announced earlier in the season, our 2021 champion will receive more than just a winners trophy - Sargent will be joining Shell V-Power Racing (Team DJR) at Queensland Raceway in early 2022 to test drive one of their Ford Mustang supercars. Formula Ford has been an important stepping stone for many Supercars drivers over its 52-year history and we can't wait to see what the future holds for Sargent.

Although we already have our champion secured, the 2021 Championship is still not fully concluded, the remaining podium positions are not settled, nor the rookie of the year award guaranteed. On November 27th-28th we will be heading to Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and we are excited to see what our season finale has in store for us.
